Beauty and the Strange

Well we took our mini Fall leaf peeping trip to the mountains. The Fall colors were at peak and just beautiful.

We had a lot of rain, but it seemed to intensify the colors when the sun did come out.

There's this place I always love to stop at. It's on the outskirts of Cherokee and it is one of the Welcome Centers for the Smokey Mountains. There is a Mountain Farm Museum there and it is free to walk through. I have gone there many times since my youth. I think it is a must see, that and Cades Cove.

The John  Davis house was originally located near Deep Creek, North Carolina, an excellent place to go tubing by the way. Mr. Davis built this house with the help of his children. Most of the buildings on the Farm related to the most basic needs: preserving food.

On the way home we decided to check out the Georgia Guidestones.  What a strange thing see out in the middle of nowhere. I almost drove past it.
The story, although very mysterious, seems to be that an anonymous person, Mr. R.C. Christian, paid a farm owner for the corner section of their farm. This same person also paid a Granite company, to carve and etch five stones, to be erected on this land.

Eight modern languages are inscribed on the vertical slabs of granite, and a shorter message is inscribed at the top of the structure in four ancient language scripts: Babylonian, Classical Greek, Sanskrit, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. The stones area arranged so that they are astronomically aligned. No one knows why. Some speculate that the message is for Post Apocalyptic times.

The same message is on each stone in a different language. Here is the message:
  1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
  2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
  3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
  4. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
  5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
  6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
  7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
  8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
  9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
  10. Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

You can Google Georgia Guidestones for more information. I wouldn't recommend the drive there. It was very dull and you can see the same images on the internet probably better than my pictures. There is nothing else there, except a lone gas station and that is probably because of the remoteness.

The Older I Get The Less I Want

Cleaning house today.

Dusting just really sucks!

I feel like the Hans and Franz spoof on Saturday Night Live...."I lift things up I put them down."

While I really like collecting things, and I really like to see them's overrated.

I am over the dusting!

I think it is time to change my decorating style.

From minimalist!

Please Color Me Fall

It's me....Ames.

In case you forgot who I was.

I haven't been here in a while.

Not enough me time to indulge in blogging lately.

I miss it.

I was thinking about an upcoming trip we will be making to see some Fall leaves.

I hope we see color. I need some color in my life right now.

I hope we find a lot of roadside stands that sell my husband's Chow Chow that he loves so much and my yummy Pumpkin butter.

I hope we see unique hay bales.

I collect pictures of unique hay bales.

I have a bunch more but didn't want to blast you with them.

I hope you are enjoying Fall in your locale. No color changes here in sunny Florida. :(

Thanks for stopping by! ~Ames
