Alphabe~Thursday "Y" is for Yearning

I am yearning,

for little boys to experience the life of a simpler time.

When a bottle of cold pop was an icy treat,

and the refunded nickle made it extra sweet.

Xbox, Computers and TV babysitters aren’t play,

making forts, fighting enemies was seizing the day.

What’s the password, girls didn't know,

playing in dirt made little boys grow.

l am yearning,

for young boys to experience the life of a simpler time.

Homework then chores before play,

without complaint was the respectful way.

Flag football with the guys, down at the empty lot,

hide and seek in the dark, with girls trying to get caught.

A family meal, giving thanks, shared stories and laughter,

clearing the table for mom and doing the dishes after.

I am yearning,

for young men to experience the life of a simpler time.

Build pride with their hands, and take shop in school,

repair their own cars using their dad’s tools.

Study and excel, good men they will be.

Instead of standing on the corner, with pockets down to their knee.

I am yearning.

Don't forget to stop by Jenny Matlock's blog (off on my tangent) and check out some interesting information about the letter "Y". You can get there by clicking on this link:

Me too! This generation have missed out on so many good things. I somehow can't imagine us yearning for computer games or play stations in quite the same way.

Oh I so agree and whoever thought up the fashion in the picture needs shooting!

Brilliant Ames and so true !

Luckily, our boys made it under the wire for the 'yearning' kind of fun and then got sucked up by techno stuff like most of their generation. There are parents out there who still encourage old fashioned fun but in today's world it it so much more scheduled and calendered !

Yep, that was how I was raised (but from a girl's viewpoint!) and pretty much how I raised my children. Some of it has stayed with them, thank goodness!
Great Y word!

Oh boy, Ames. So am I.

You said a mouthful here. And you said it well.

It's a good thing this generation did not fancy fishnet underwear while they were yearning on the corner with their pockets at their knees. It could be worse.

True, true, true - so glad my son is grown up but I yearn for all those things for my two little grandsons. Great post!

My dad, if he was still alive, would NEVER allow us to leave the house looking like that picture!

Nice post, Ames.
Thanks for sharing.

I think I recognize that butt!

I am sooo with you on this Ames! I am yearning for simpler times, slower paces, willing neighbors and open faces!

This was absolutely lovely.

And it gave me a few small tears!

Darn you!

I was so determined not to cry today!

See you soon!

Hugs and A+
