This week Jenny's prompt has been provided by Nonna Beach. Everyone knows Nonna right? If not, please stop by and introduce yourself to her over at her blog: http://lynnskitchen202.blogspot.com/2011/06/novel-escape-saturday-centus.html
This week's prompt is "The wall was built long ago" and is in bold. Jenny has increased the word allowance to 200 not including the prompt.
Now onto my contribution.....
~~~~In the year 2012, the world started to change. The frequency of earthquakes, tornadic and volcanic activity increased to the point that civilization could not rebound before another event would occur. There was so much devastation that any hope of receiving humanitarian aid all but came to a standstill.
Those that remained in a state of preparedness throughout the years managed better than others. They listened and they survived. The millions of homeless people sought shelter on higher ground.
Those that lived along the eastern coastal stretch of land in Florida called Merritt’s Island would not leave. They believed that an old Seminole Indian blessing protected the area from hurricanes and other forces of nature. They believed that NASA had chosen the site of Kennedy Space Center for that very same reason. Then NASA left. Did the government know and just not warn those left behind?
False security was placed on a 10 foot seawall that founding fathers built to break the impact of an approaching tsunami. The wall was built long ago and it did not hold. The islanders could never have fathomed the height and speed of the tsunami created by the collapsing Cumbre Vieja volcano. Thousands of souls were washed out to sea.
